think the recipe Bill is looking for is called Seven Layer Bars and/or Magic Cookie Bars. It's really easy to make and delicious too. I make them every year for Christmas.
SEVEN LAYER BARS
1/2 cup butter or margarine (1 stick) 1 cup graham cracker crumbs 1 cup flaked sweetened coconut 1 cup chocolate chips 1 cup butterscotch chips (may use all chocolate chips if preferred) 1 12 oz can sweetened condensed milk (may us non-fat but it must be sweetened, not just condensed milk) 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Turn oven to 350 degrees. Place butter or margarine in 9 x 13 inch pan and place in oven until butter melts. Carefully swirl melted butter in pan to cover bottom and grease sides. Place on a flat heat-proof surface. Evenly sprinkle the next 4 ingredients over the bottom of pan in the order given. Pour sweetened condensed milk over the top, covering it as much as possible. Sprinkle the nuts evenly over the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool and cut into desired size bars. These freeze well and should be refrigerated for storage of more than a day or two. Margaret

Regarding the "amazing cookie bars that were made with coconut, chocolate chips and I think they also had sweetened condensed milk" a reader asked for .. I believe he is referring to one of my favorites ... "Magic Cookie Bars" (I have lifted and pasted from the "Eagle Brand" website)
This is THE EAGLE BRANDŽ best-loved classic - a favorite of kids and adults alike! EAGLE BRANDŽ is the magic ingredient in this easy cookie bar recipe.
Servings: Makes 2 to 3 dozen bars Serving Size: not available Nutrition: not available Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 25 minutes Total Time: 35 minutes Ingredients 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, melted 1 (14-ounce) can EAGLE BRANDŽ Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk) 2 cups (12 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 1/3 cups flaked coconut 1 cup chopped nuts
Instructions Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for glass dish). In small bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs and butter; mix well. Press crumb mixture firmly on bottom of 13X9-inch baking pan. Pour EAGLE BRANDŽ evenly over crumb mixture. Layer evenly with remaining ingredients; press down firmly with fork. Bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool. Cut into bars or diamonds. Store leftovers covered at room temperature. ... I always use flaked almonds ... they are magical because they are so easy to make, and they also "magic"-ly disappear !!!
