Sheila requested a recipe for "Favorite hot drinks that she could make for her husband who works outdoors in cold weather". We had several responses. If you have a variation of these recipes that you would like to share with our readers, send them to us at recipes@tias.com Be sure to also check out this weeks recipe request, below. -- Shelia. A very unusual, but very good and healthful hot drink is "Tang" orange drink. Fill the thermos with boiling water and then add "Tang" to taste. This also a grate cold preventative and can be used as a cold buster it it is too late, by adding about 5 or 6 Hall's menthol cough drops! Greg in Baltimore

When I was a kid, my mom used to pour Dr. Pepper in a saucepan and warm it, then add a slice of lemon. What a treat! Dr. Pepper is still my favorite soda pop!
Also, we used to take tomato soup in a thermos and sip it when it was cold outside. Love your newsletters! Pat (in Nebraska)

Hello, In today's newsletter a reader requested hot drink recipes for her husband to take in his thermos. Well this isn't a recipe but a suggestion. I have recently discovered Mexican hot chocolate and it is an under appreciated treasure. Where I live it is readily available at the grocery store in several varieties. Unlike our usual hot chocolate mixes, Mexican hot chocolate contains cocoa beans, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon--nothing else. How healthy can you get?! It is rich and delicious and easy to make--just crumble the cakes into milk, heat and serve. If unavailable in her area, she could try making her own Mexican hot chocolate from a recipe. Alice V

Here is a favorite hot drink for cold weather and it is so simple. Heat V8 juice or Tomato juice. Add bouillon cubes or granules. Use as much bouillon to your taste. Stir until the bouillon is dissolved. Pour into thermos and enjoy. Sharon

This is for the lady who would like to add variety to her husband's thermos. I use orange pekoe tea as a base, adding heated fruit juice such as pomegranate or apple cider along with cinnamon or other sweet spice. It really adds zing to the tea.....Charlotte ---- Did you know TIAS merchants have over 1000 vintage cookbooks for sale online? They make great gifts. Take a http://www.tias.com/cookbooks
